Export a simulation video
Question:
Is it possible to export a video of my simulation?
Answer:
Yes, this is possible. Please do the following:
- Open RAMMS::Extended, and then an Extended simulation.
- Zoom, move and rotate your view into the position you want to record the video from.
- Click the video button in the left vertical toolbar. It’s the fifth button from below, and this tooltip appears: Video (FFmpeg). Or navigate to ‘Track -> Export… -> Video (FFmpeg)‘.
- If this is the first time you try to create a video, you will see the following information window:
Please follow the instructions:
- Download FFmpeg: Visit the official FFmpeg builds page -> https://www.gyan.dev/ffmpeg/builds/
- Choose the Right Version: Download the archive named “ffmpeg-release-essentials.7z” or “ffmpeg-release-essentials.zip”
- Extract and Locate ffmpeg.exe: After extraction, find ffmpeg.exe inside the bin folder.
- Copy ffmpeg.exe to the “bin” folder of your RAMMS installation (You may need administrator privileges to copy files into this location).
- If you do not have administrator privileges, then copy ffmpeg.exe to any location on your computer, and then add the full path to the ffmpeg file in the GUI Preferences like this:
FFMPEG <full_path_to_ffmpeg.exe_file> (without <>)
(if the path contains blancs, you need “”)
Once added, RAMMS will automatically detect it and enable video export functionality. FFmpeg is not bundled with RAMMS due to licensing constraints. You only need to do this once.
This will also work for all other RAMMS modules, once they are updated to the new GUI (soon).
