Simulation Software for Natural Hazards

RAMMS is a physics-based modeling framework for simulating avalanches, debris flows, and rockfall. Used worldwide by engineers, researchers, and risk managers, RAMMS provides scientifically robust tools to analyze natural hazards, design mitigation measures, and support risk-informed decision making.

What’s New

Major Update: RAMMS::Rockfall
Featuring a redesigned GUI, improved visualization, and powerful new terrain and obstacle impact analyses with automatic CSV and HTML reports. The new Reduced Mode enables efficient large-scale simulations with tens or even hundreds of thousands of trajectories.

RAMMS::RockIce (Beta):
Designed for high-alpine events, this new module simulates rock-ice-avalanche mixtures, capturing water and ice content, melt timing, and secondary debris flow initiation – all in one integrated model!

Why RAMMS

  • Physics-based models built on decades of natural hazard research.
  • Proven in practice by engineers and researchers worldwide.
  • Continuously evolving with new modules and capabilities.

what we do

Advanced Hazard Runout Simulation

In the field of natural hazards there is a strong need for process models that simulate the runout behaviour of avalanches, debris flows and rockfalls. Such models are often applied to evaluate the interaction of a given process with mitigation measures, such as forests or deflecting dams as well as for hazard mapping. The software package RAMMS (Rapid Mass Movement Simulation) unites these process modules with a user-friendly graphical interface.
